The Best Time to Get Married in Cyprus

Choosing when to marry in Cyprus is one of the first big decisions you'll make, and it shapes almost everything that follows — the temperature on the day, the quality of the light in your photographs, how much your venue and suppliers will cost, and whether your guests are dancing under warm evening skies or wrapped up against a winter breeze. The good news is that there's no truly bad time to marry on this island. Cyprus enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year, and we've photographed beautiful weddings in every single month. After fifteen years and well over a thousand weddings here, what we can offer you is something more useful than "it's always sunny": an honest, season-by-season picture of what each part of the year actually feels like.

We're Nick and Aimie Wild of Beziique, a multi-award-winning husband-and-wife team of wedding photographers. We've stood behind the camera in the searing stillness of an August afternoon and in the soft, low gold of a November sunset, so this guide is written from the ground up rather than from a brochure. Below you'll find the best months at a glance, a comparison of all four seasons, what to expect from the heat, and — because it's the thing we think about constantly as your Cyprus wedding photographer — how the light changes across the year. If you'd like the wider picture of marrying here, our complete guide for UK couples is the natural next read.

The best months at a glance

If you want the short answer, here it is: the sweet spots are May to June and September to October. In these shoulder-season months the temperature settles into a gloriously comfortable range, the sea is warm enough to swim in, the crowds of high summer have thinned, and the light is soft rather than harsh. These are the months we and most Cyprus wedding planners quietly recommend first, because they give you warmth without the fierce midday heat and the most flattering conditions for photography from morning preparations through to the last dance. They're also, unsurprisingly, the most popular — so if your heart is set on a Saturday in late May or late September, book your venue and your photographer well ahead.

That said, "best" depends on what you're optimising for. If guaranteed heat and a long, lazy beach-holiday feel matter most to you, July and August deliver wall-to-wall sunshine — you simply plan the day around the temperature, which we'll come to. If your priority is value and a quiet, intimate atmosphere, the winter months from November to March are the cheapest and least crowded time to marry on the island, and they have a romance all of their own. And spring, particularly April and early May, gives you green hillsides, the last of the wildflowers and a freshness in the air that the rest of the year never quite recaptures.

For a true month-by-month breakdown — temperatures, what's blooming or happening, and whether it's peak, shoulder or quiet season — see our companion piece on the Cyprus wedding season month by month. It's the most granular resource we have, and it pairs naturally with this overview. Between the two, you should be able to land on a date with confidence rather than guesswork.

Spring, summer, autumn and winter compared

Spring (March to May) is, for many of our couples, the unsung hero of the Cyprus calendar. The island is at its greenest, the heat is gentle, and there's a lightness to everything — the air, the mood, the colour palette. March can still be cool and occasionally wet, but by April and into May the days are reliably warm without being draining, and venues and suppliers are often more available than in peak months. It's an ideal time for couples who want comfortable conditions for older guests and small children, and for anyone who loves a fresh, blossoming backdrop. Our guide to spring weddings in Cyprus goes deeper on what the season offers, including exactly when the wildflowers peak.

Summer (June to August) is high season in every sense: hottest, busiest, and the most quintessentially Mediterranean. June straddles the line beautifully, warm without being the most extreme, while July and August are the genuine peak, with the coast regularly reaching the low thirties and the interior running hotter still. This isn't a reason to avoid summer — it's simply a reason to plan intelligently, with later ceremonies and shaded spaces, all of which we cover in our piece on summer weddings in Cyprus. Summer rewards you with long evenings, guaranteed sunshine and that holiday atmosphere guests adore, provided the day is built around the sun rather than fighting it.

Autumn (September to November) is, alongside late spring, our top recommendation. September and October hold onto summer's warmth while shedding its intensity, the sea is at its warmest after a long summer of heating, and the crowds have largely gone home. The light in autumn is exceptional — long, low and golden — and the atmosphere is relaxed. Read more in our overview of autumn weddings in Cyprus. Winter (December to February) is the quiet, cosy, budget-friendly end of the spectrum: cooler days, typically mid-teens by the coast, the occasional spell of rain, but plenty of crisp, bright sunshine and the lowest prices of the year. For intimate, low-cost or off-peak celebrations it's wonderfully underrated, as our guide to winter weddings in Cyprus explains.

Weather, heat and what to expect

Cyprus has a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, comparatively short winters. From roughly May to October you can plan an outdoor ceremony with near-total confidence that the sun will show up — rain in these months is rare enough to be a non-issue for most couples. That reliability is one of the chief reasons UK couples choose the island in the first place. After a British spring of contingency plans and marquee sides, the certainty of Cyprus weather is a genuine relief.

The headline number to hold in mind is the midday heat in high summer. In July and August, coastal afternoon temperatures regularly climb into the low thirties, and higher again inland, so standing in a suit or a full gown in direct sun at 2pm is no fun for anyone — least of all your guests and your more elderly relatives. The simple, elegant solution is timing: we strongly recommend late-afternoon or sunset ceremonies in the hottest months, so vows are exchanged as the day cools and the light turns beautiful at the same time. Provide shade, water and a plan for getting people comfortably from A to B, and a summer wedding becomes a joy rather than an endurance test.

Outside the summer peak, the weather is forgiving and easy to plan around. The shoulder months sit in a comfortable range where almost any ceremony time works well. Winter is mild rather than cold by UK standards — you'll want a wrap or a jacket for the evening and should keep a wet-weather backup in mind, but bright, clear winter days are common and can be stunning. Sea breezes near the coast take the edge off warm afternoons, while inland and hillside venues tend to feel a touch fresher. Whatever month you choose, a good local planner will help you build a timeline that works with the conditions, and that planning is the difference between a day that flows and one that fights the elements.

The photographer's view: light through the year

People talk about Cyprus weather; photographers talk about Cyprus light, and the two aren't the same thing. What we're forever chasing is soft, directional, golden light — the kind that wraps gently around faces, lifts skin tones and gives an image depth and warmth. The single most important thing to understand is that the harsh, vertical light of a Cyprus midday in summer is the least flattering of the whole year, casting hard shadows under the eyes and washing out colour, while the low light of early morning and the hour before sunset is the most flattering. This is true in every month, but it matters most when the sun is at its strongest.

That's why the shoulder seasons — May–June and September–October — are a photographer's dream as well as a guest's. The sun sits lower in the sky for more of the day, the golden hour stretches longer, and you can shoot gorgeous, glowing portraits across a wider window without battling glare. In high summer the magic is still absolutely there; it simply arrives later in the day, which is the real reason we nudge couples towards sunset ceremonies in July and August. Winter, often overlooked, gives you a beautifully long, soft golden hour and a low, cinematic sun all afternoon — some of our most atmospheric portraits have been made in December. If you want to go deeper into this, our dedicated guide to the best light and weather for Cyprus wedding photography is written precisely for couples who care how their photographs will look.

None of this means you must reshape your whole day around the camera. It means that a photographer who knows this island can find the best light in any month — and that a small tweak to your timeline, like exchanging vows an hour later or slipping out for ten minutes at sunset, can transform your gallery. That instinct, built over more than a thousand Cyprus weddings, is exactly what we bring. Have a look through our portfolio to see how the light reads across different seasons and venues, and when you've settled on a season that feels like yours, do get in touch — we'd love to hear about your plans and tell you honestly what your chosen month will give you.

  • When is the best time of year to get married in Cyprus?

For most couples, May–June and September–October: comfortable temperatures, soft golden light and a warm sea, without the very peak of the summer heat. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, best suited to a late-afternoon or sunset ceremony, while winter (November–March) is the cheapest and quietest option for an intimate, low-cost celebration. There genuinely isn't a bad month — it's about matching the season to what you want from the day.

  • How far is Cyprus to fly from the UK?

Typically around four and a half to five hours direct, depending on your departure airport and whether you're flying into Paphos (PFO) or Larnaca (LCA). Both airports have regular scheduled and charter services from across the UK, and that short-haul distance is a big part of why Cyprus suits destination weddings so well — guests of any age can join you without long-haul jet lag.

  • What is the hottest month for a Cyprus wedding?

July and August are the hottest, with the coast regularly reaching the low thirties and the interior running hotter still. We recommend planning a later-afternoon or sunset ceremony in high summer so you and your guests stay comfortable and your photographs catch the best light — our guide to summer weddings in Cyprus explains how to make the heat work in your favour.

  • Which season keeps costs down the most?

Winter, by some distance. Venue and supplier rates are typically at their lowest from November through March, flights outside the Christmas peak are often cheaper, and because venues frequently host only one wedding a day in the off-season, you get more attention for less money. Our guide to winter weddings in Cyprus goes into why so many budget-conscious and elopement-style couples choose this window deliberately.

  • How soon will we get our wedding photos?

Whatever month you marry in, your full, hand-edited gallery follows in approximately 6–10 weeks — every image individually edited in our signature documentary style, never batch-processed.
