The venue in our own village
In the heart of Kouklia — the ancient capital of Cyprus and the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite — Liopetro takes its name from the ancient Greek word for stone, and it lives up to it: built from old Cypriot stone and wood, with far-reaching views to the sea. A circular terrace makes for a ceremony space that can be set up a dozen different ways, surrounded by landscaped gardens heavy with bougainvillea and hung with lanterns after dark.
It's a private, exclusive-use venue — your wedding is the only one happening there that day — and because it's in our own village, we've watched it in every season and every light, not just from a single site visit.
Arrive through the bougainvillea
You feel Liopetro before you reach the ceremony. The drive climbs through Kouklia village and past the ancient grounds of Palaepaphos, then turns through a stone archway smothered in bougainvillea, the venue's name carved into the wall at the threshold. Beyond it, the sound of the road disappears, replaced by cypress trees, olive groves, and a first glimpse of the sea.
It's a small piece of theatre before the day has even started, and one every guest remembers.
Makis, Ifigenia, and a team that feels like family
Liopetro is owned and run by Makis and Ifigenia, whose team leads every wedding here with a warmth that's hard to fake. We've been welcomed back so many times over the years that many of the staff are now friends rather than just people we work alongside on a wedding day.

Why the light here is different
Every venue photographs differently, and Liopetro is one of the most rewarding in Cyprus to work in. The circular terrace catches the sea light through the afternoon, the gardens turn every corner into a frame of old stone and bright bougainvillea, and a few minutes up the road sit the ancient ruins of the Sanctuary of Aphrodite — the backdrop behind some of our favourite golden-hour portraits anywhere on the island.
By the time the sun drops and the lanterns come on in the garden, the whole venue changes character again — which is why so many of our Liopetro galleries end up split almost evenly between daylight and dusk. When is the best time of year to get married in Cyprus?
The best window for a Cyprus wedding runs from late April through to early November, when the weather is reliably warm and sunny. Within that stretch, May–June and September–October are the most popular months — temperatures sit around a comfortable 20–26°C and the light is soft and golden, ideal for photography. July and August are the hottest, often 32°C and above, so we recommend later-afternoon and sunset ceremonies in high summer. The shoulder seasons give the best light, while winter is the cheapest and quietest time to marry in Cyprus if you want an intimate, low-cost celebration.

What are the traditions of a Cyprus wedding?
Traditional Cypriot weddings include the “Stolisma” — a ceremony where family and friends help dress the bride and groom — and the role of the “Koumbaros” or “Koumbara,” a sponsor akin to a best man or maid of honour who plays a formal part in the ceremony. Many couples marrying in Cyprus choose to weave a touch of these traditions into an otherwise Western-style wedding.
How soon will we get our wedding photos?
Your full, hand-edited gallery is delivered in approximately 6–10 weeks. Every image is individually edited in our signature documentary style — we never cut corners on the part that lasts a lifetime.
How long do we have to be in Cyprus before the wedding?
There's no residency period, but you both need to apply in person at the town hall before the wedding. With ordinary notice you can marry at least 15 clear days after applying; a special licence costs more but lets you marry sooner — sometimes the very next working day.
