Vasilias Nikoklis Inn — Venue Review, Cyprus Wedding Photography
Vasilias Nikoklis Inn is one of the venues we get asked about most, so we wanted to write a proper review of it rather than another brochure page — what a wedding actually looks and feels like here, seen through the lens of the photographers who turn up at seven in the morning and stay until the last dance. We already have a full venue guide to Vasilias Nikoklis Inn with the practical details; this is the honest version, written after enough weddings here to know its best light, its quirks, and the corners most couples never think to ask about.
The inn sits in the Diarizos valley near the village of Nikokleia, a short drive inland from Paphos — close enough for guests to reach easily, far enough that the pace of the day slows right down the moment you turn off the main road. As a Cyprus wedding photographer working right across the island, we shoot in five-star resorts and clifftop hotels most weeks of the year, and Vasilias remains one of the few venues that still feels like somewhere real people live, rather than a stage built for weddings.

What it's like to shoot a wedding here
Every venue has a rhythm, and Vasilias' is unhurried. The ceremony space, the bar and the courtyard all sit within a two-minute walk of each other, which sounds like a small thing until you're the one working the room — it means we're never sprinting between locations or missing a moment because the getting-ready suite is a taxi ride from the aisle. Because Vasilias is intimate rather than sprawling, guests naturally end up in the same frame as the vines, the stone and the mountains behind them, instead of a car park or a function-room carpet.
Light is the other reason we keep coming back. The valley runs roughly east to west, so the courtyard holds warm, low sun for most of a summer evening, and the old grapevine canopy overhead turns hard midday glare into soft, dappled shade exactly when a wedding party needs somewhere comfortable to sit. Sunset portraits taken from the edge of the property, looking back towards the Troodos foothills, are some of the best we get anywhere in Paphos.

The valley outside the gates
Step outside the gate and Vasilias is still a working valley, not a film set. Goat herders bring their flocks along the same tracks they always have, and it isn't unusual to end up photographing a couple with a genuine herd of goats drifting through the background — no styling, no arranging, just whatever the valley happened to be doing that afternoon. Families still hand-harvest olives from the trees along the Dhiarizos river most winters, and that lived-in landscape is exactly what gives portraits shot here a sense of place that a manicured resort garden can't fake.

Inside the inn: rooms, bar and courtyard
Vasilias works as well for the practical side of a wedding as it does for photographs. There are eight ensuite bedrooms at the inn itself, each with air conditioning and tea and coffee facilities, so the wedding party can get ready, stay over, and start the next morning without anyone driving anywhere. The pool is fenced off and safe for children, which matters more than couples expect once younger guests are running around during the speeches.
The bar is genuinely well stocked and the staff pour with a generosity that UK wedding venues rarely match, and live music is permitted at the venue — we've photographed everything from a lone guitarist to a full band playing into the evening here. Every time we've worked at Vasilias, the team have treated the wedding party like family, and that changes the mood of a whole day; a relaxed crew behind the bar makes for a relaxed dancefloor.

Dressing the courtyard, your way
The courtyard itself is shaded by an old grapevine canopy and can be dressed almost any way you like, from bare wood and wildflowers to something considerably more polished — we've shot both here and neither has looked out of place. Maria at Flowershop Aliki is one of the main suppliers in and around the venue and does genuinely beautiful work; we liked her arrangements enough to use her for our own wedding flowers, which should tell you something about how highly we rate her.
As the sun goes down, strings of lights come on through the vines and the whole courtyard changes character — golden, and a little theatrical, which photographs beautifully once the dancing starts. If you're weighing Vasilias against other rustic options, it's worth browsing our wider edit of small and intimate wedding venues in Cyprus, or comparing it directly with Liopetro, the other rustic venue we're asked about most.

Who Vasilias is perfect for
Vasilias suits couples who want their wedding to feel like a really good family gathering rather than a hotel event — intimate numbers, real conversation, and a setting with some age and character to it. If you're picturing white marble, a ballroom and a resort buffet for two hundred guests, this isn't that venue, and we'd rather tell you that honestly; there are excellent options elsewhere on the island for that brief, and our guide to getting married in Paphos covers the wider choice.
But if a grapevine courtyard, a family who treat you like their own, and portraits with genuine Cypriot countryside behind you sound like your kind of day, we don't think you'll find anywhere else on the island quite like it. We'd love to be the Cyprus wedding photographer who covers it for you — get in touch and tell us your date, or browse our portfolio to see more of what a day at Vasilias looks like through our lens.

We're not the venue's marketing team
We work here as photographers, not venue coordinators — here's what that gives you.
Fifteen Years On This Island
We've shot weddings at Vasilias across every season, so we know how the light behaves in the courtyard at 6pm in July versus 6pm in November — and plan your day around it.
We know this valley's light in every season.
Two Photographers, One Story
With our Premium Plus and Luxury collections, Nick and Aimie shoot together — both sides of your day, covered at once. Whichever collection you choose, it is always Nick or Aimie, never an associate you've never met.
Exactly who you see is exactly who shows up.
An Honest Opinion, Not a Sales Pitch
If Vasilias isn't the right fit for the day you're picturing, we'll say so and point you towards a venue that is. We'd rather you love where you marry.
We'd rather you love your venue than book through us.
