Sea Caves Wedding Photography, Peyia

The Sea Caves at Peyia are not a hotel or a wedding venue in the usual sense — they are a stretch of white limestone coast north of Coral Bay, carved into arches, ledges and caves by the sea. For couples who want their ceremony to feel like part of the landscape, with nothing between them and the horizon, few spots in Cyprus are as striking. We are Nick and Aimie Wild of Beziique, and a wedding on these cliffs is one we would love to photograph. If you are planning one, we would be delighted to hear from you.

About the Peyia Sea Caves

The Sea Caves (Thalassines Spilies) lie on the coast between Peyia and Agios Georgios in the west of the Paphos district, reached by the coast road past Coral Bay. Waves have worn the soft white limestone into overhangs, rock pools and small caves, and the water below is a clear blue-green. The area is mostly open coastline with villas set back from the cliffs, so it feels wild while still being easy to reach by car.

The local municipality — Peyia, now part of the wider Akamas Municipality — lists an open-air ceremony location close to the sea caves among the places its marriage officers can conduct civil weddings, on weekdays outside public holidays. UK operator Jet2Weddings has also started offering beach ceremonies at Peyia Sea Caves in partnership with Cypriot town halls. Some planners refer to the clifftop setting simply as White Cliffs.

There are no reception facilities on the cliffs themselves, so couples usually pair a ceremony here with a meal or party at a restaurant or hotel nearby.

Photographing a ceremony on the cliffs

Although we have not yet photographed a wedding at the Sea Caves, we know this coastline and we would love the chance. Open ground like this is where a documentary approach makes the most sense: we can step back, let the ceremony unfold, and use the scale of the cliffs and the sea to show how small and personal the moment is.

The coast here faces west, so the hour before sunset turns the pale rock warm and gold. That makes a late-afternoon ceremony the natural choice, with portraits along the cliff edge and arches as the sun drops. Rock and wind need some care, especially in a long dress, so we keep portraits relaxed and guide you gently to safe, flat spots rather than asking for anything risky.

Take a look at our portfolio to see how we photograph a wedding from start to finish, and if the Sea Caves are where you plan to say your vows, please get in touch.

Getting married in the Paphos district

A clifftop ceremony works especially well for a small wedding. Our guide to small and intimate wedding venues in Cyprus has more ideas, the civil wedding in Cyprus guide explains how the legal side works, and our guide to getting married in Paphos covers the wider area.

For a meal close by, Ozea Sea Caves sits right on this part of the coast, while the Coral Beach Hotel in Coral Bay offers a full resort for guests. As Cyprus wedding photographers living in the Paphos district, we are happy to talk through timings and locations, and our Paphos wedding photographer page explains how we work.

  • Can we have a legal wedding at the Sea Caves?

The local municipality lists an open-air ceremony spot near the sea caves, and its marriage officers conduct civil weddings there on weekdays. Arrangements and fees are set by the municipality and can change, so your planner will confirm current availability. A symbolic ceremony or blessing can be held on the cliffs whenever you like.

  • Where can we hold the reception after a Sea Caves ceremony?

There is no venue on the cliffs, so the meal and party take place elsewhere — a restaurant on this stretch of coast, a hotel in Coral Bay or Agios Georgios, or a private villa. Most couples plan a short drive between the two.

  • What time of day is best for a clifftop ceremony?

Late afternoon, especially from May to October. The west-facing cliffs catch the evening light, and in July and August a sunset ceremony avoids the worst of the heat for you and your guests.

  • Do we need to arrive in Cyprus early to get married?

There is no residency period. You apply in person at the municipality, either with ordinary notice — marrying at least 15 clear days later — or with a special licence for a sooner date. Most couples arrive around three working days before the wedding to complete the paperwork.
