Oenou Yi Wedding Photography, Omodos

Up in the vineyards around Omodos, Oenou Yi – Ktima Vassiliades is a stone winery built on a scale that suits a big Cypriot-style party as easily as a smaller dinner. With a vast open-air square, a restaurant for intimate numbers and terraces that look out across the Troodos foothills, it appeals to couples who want mountain air, good local wine and room to celebrate. We are Nick and Aimie Wild of Beziique, and we would very much like to photograph a wedding here, so if Oenou Yi is on your list, we would love to hear from you.

About Oenou Yi – Ktima Vassiliades

Oenou Yi (sometimes spelled Oinou Gi) is a young, family-owned winery founded by lawyer and winemaker Christodoulos G. Vassiliades in the late 2010s. It's a three-storey stone building set between the Afamis and Laona hills on the edge of Omodos, one of the best-known wine villages of the Krasochoria, about an hour's drive from Limassol. The winery works exclusively with Cypriot indigenous grape varieties and offers tours and tastings in purpose-built rooms.

For weddings, its headline feature is size. Published descriptions give the outdoor square room for up to 1,000 guests at dinner, with space for a stage and a dance floor, while the indoor restaurant takes up to 80 for a smaller celebration. Terraces look out over the surrounding vineyards, and the grounds are planted with native plants and flowers. Because the winery's own website was not live when we checked, please confirm current capacities and wedding packages directly with Oenou Yi or your planner.

How we'd photograph a winery wedding in Omodos

We have not yet had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at Oenou Yi, but it is the kind of place our documentary approach is built for. Stone walls and rows of vines give natural texture without any staging, the altitude takes the edge off the summer heat, and the light over the Troodos foothills turns soft and golden well before sunset. A big outdoor square also means proper room to move: we can stay out of the way during speeches and still catch the reactions on every table.

Omodos itself is worth a few minutes of your day. Its cobbled lanes and the Holy Cross Monastery on the main square make a relaxed setting for portraits, and the vineyards right beside the winery work beautifully for a quiet walk together at golden hour. Have a look at our portfolio for the kind of natural, emotional pictures we make, then get in touch and tell us what you are planning.

Getting married in the Limassol wine villages

Omodos is in Limassol district, so couples usually handle the legal side through a municipality, either before the celebration in the mountains or as a civil ceremony arranged by their planner. Our guide to getting married in Limassol sets out the process, and the complete guide for UK couples explains the paperwork from home. If you are drawn to vineyards, you might also compare Ktima Gerolemo, also in Omodos, and Vasilikon Winery in the Paphos hills.

We are Cyprus wedding photographers based in Kouklia, and we work right across the district as a Limassol wedding photographer, so a day in the mountains is somewhere we would be very happy to be.

  • How many guests can Oenou Yi accommodate?

Published descriptions give the outdoor square a capacity of up to 1,000 guests for a wedding dinner, with room for a stage and dance floor, and the indoor restaurant up to 80. Do confirm current figures with the winery when you enquire.

  • Can we hold the ceremony at the winery?

A symbolic ceremony or blessing can be held anywhere, including among the vines. A legal civil ceremony outdoors needs a municipality-approved location and registrar, so your planner or the winery will confirm what is possible at Oenou Yi. Many couples marry legally at the town hall and then hold the celebration in the mountains.

  • Will it be cooler in Omodos than on the coast?

The Troodos foothills are generally a little cooler than the coast, which helps in summer, but July and August are still hot across Cyprus. We'd suggest a late-afternoon or sunset ceremony in high summer, or choosing May–June or September–October when the light and temperatures are kinder.

  • How early should we arrive in Cyprus?

There is no residency period, so you only need to be on the island in time to give notice in person at the municipality. Most couples fly out around three working days before the wedding, which leaves time for the paperwork, a final venue visit and a slow evening in the mountains before the big day.
